Biometric identification is one best way that researchers discovered to determine a person's identity. Few biometric systems include LED thumb-pad identification devices, complex retinal laser scanning, or even computerized iris recognition. Added to line-up is a quick X-ray of your knees!

As published in the International Journal of Biometrics, researchers proved that an X-ray of the patient's knees could lead to unlocking its unique identity. The approach rapidly analyzes the X-ray images using the wnd-charm algorithm, which has been known to diagnose clinical conditions of the knee joints.

The main advantage of this kind of imaging is that identity thefts or fraudster will have difficulty in manipulating the unique features of an individual's knees, unlike, the eyes and finger prints which can be overlayed with artificial IDs like the contact lenses and finger pads.

"The Wnd-charm algorithm, which is publicly available, is a multi-purpose image classification method that looks at a large set of image features, including high-contrast features, textures, and the statistical distribution of pixels in the image."

There has been cases which victim’s finger cut off to steal a high-end Mercedes equipped with biometrics ignition system. No doubt knee identification is more difficult to trick with artificial identification, one does not need high tech hack to overcome the system. Just a low tech machete will do the job.
